Hip Fashion : Rasta Wear

NEW AND EXCITING things are always taking place in the world of fashion. And, Jamaicans seem to always have their fingers right in that enthralling mix of styles, colours and textures.

One very fashionable trend right now is deeply steeped in our own culture of Rastafarianism.Designer Christian Dior has cashed in on it with his rather pricey line and international stars such as Beyoncé have jumped on the 'band wagon'. What are we talking about? The colours red, green and gold of course.

This strong, tri-colour combo has graduated from the seemingly restricted circles of rasta attire and has become immersed in everyday wear by everyday people. Most of these rasta-inspired items are created through the traditional technique of crochet or knitting, and most persons tend to prefer these more 'authentic' ones.

Whatever the method of creation though, the belts, hats, wrist bands, head bands, scarves, sandals, dresses and even bikinis just to name a few, of course are quite popular and extremely stylish.New Dance: MemoriesOriginated by: Joseff 'Rizzla' ClarkeReason for name: "Because it's just if you lost someone... someone pass away like Bogle..."Directions: "Mi step to the left one time and to the right and then to the left again with yuh hand in the air going backwards and that's the dance.

Yuh caan go forward because yuh remembering something, yuh going back in the memories."The dance is featured in the medley music video with Danny English and Nicky B for the Simone rhythm.Hip SlangThe slang for this week is 'Keeping it Jiggy' used by Elephant Man in many of his songs. The slang refers to the level of fun that a person is experiencing. The term is said to have been originated by Bogle.
