THE EDITOR, Madam:
In Jamaica there are currently two mayors who have earned my admiration. They are Mayor McKenzie of Kingston and St Andrew Corporation and Mayor Notice of the St Catherine Parish Council.
Mayor McKenzie, a veteran politician, has done and continues to do a phenomenal job in reshaping Kingston and St. Andrew. Testament to the wonderful job Mayor McKenzie is doing; we have Miss Dawn Ritch as one of his bitter critics.
Mayor Notice, new to politics, made a few errors and stumbled earlier in his tenure as the mayor at the St Catherine Parish Council. He has grown by leaps and bounds since then and is doing a terrific job.
Mayor Notice has shown that he is a statesman, mayor for all the people. He has put partisan politics aside and has dealt with issues that affect all the people.
He is indeed a breath of fresh air in the JLP. He is his 'own man' with an independent mind and way of thinking. His latest call to end the traditional Christmas work programme is on target. Mayor Notice, continue to shine and let the people see your good works. You will be rewarded handsomely in the future.
All the best gentlemen, and continued success for 2005.
I am, etc.,
