ST. ELIZABETH'S LEWISVILLE High School yesterday advanced to the second round of TVJ's Schools' Challenge Quiz after beating Hanover's Knockalva Technical High School 19- 8.

"It was interesting, but we had confidence in ourselves," Eka Hitchman, captain of the Lewisville High team said. Lewisville High established its lead from the first round with five points, while Knockalva High scored four points.

Maintained lead

In round two of the match, Lewisville maintained its lead. In the first minute, it gained five points while Knockalva gained one. In the second minute, both teams only gained one point each, and in the final minute Knockalva gained no points while Lewisville gained one.

At the end of round two, Knockalva was on six points while Lewisville was on 12. However, Lewisville later gained an additional point for a question which had been ruled to be incorrect.

Round three was fairly quiet and Lewisville gained six points, while Knockalva gained two.

Members of the Knockalva team were very disappointed with the results, so much so that the captain was reluctant to speak with THE STAR.

However, Edward Jarrett one of the team coaches said his team lost mainly because they were nervous and lacked confidence. They added that most of the members were fairly new.

Mr. Jarrett noted, however, that the team will be working on the game for next year. "We are going back to the drawing board," he said. The Knockalva team have never passed the first round for the past three years they have been in the competition.

Pleased with win

Kirthlyn Biggs, one of the Lewisville team coaches, noted that it was the first time the team advanced beyond the first round in their three years of participating. He said they are pleased with the win because they worked hard. "We worked through the entire Christmas season and new year. We stuck to the task," he said.

Hitchman said the team is hoping to advance to at least the third round of competition. Other members of the Lewisville High team are Andrew Williamson, Tamarie Esson and Dragian Thomas.

The members of the Knockalva team were Dwayne Gayle (captain), Jeffroy Baker, Phillip Muir and Colleen Blake.
