SPANISH TOWN,

A MIRACLE OCCURRED in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, yesterday.

A motor car ran off a bridge and fell more than 10 metres to the ground but the driver Devon Smith of Kitson Town, in the parish, walked away with minor injuries.

Corporal Peter Lewis of the Spanish Town Traffic Department, said at about 10:30 a.m. Smith was driving his 1991 Nissan Sentra on the Stubbs bridge towards Kingston, when the vehicle got out of control and hit the rear right tyre of a Ford F-150 motor truck. The car spun, hit out a section of the bridge railing and ran off the bridge falling several metres and landing on its top. The driver was rescued from the vehicle and taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where he remained on medical observation.

Onlookers

Scores of onlookers converged on the bridge looking over. Many said Smith was very lucky to be alive and called it a miracle. "A mus God 'imself tek him out deh alive, because see it deh de car fully mash up," one woman said.
