Old Harbour was an unstoppable force

TUESDAY'S SCHOOLS' CHALLENGE Quiz 2005 match between Old Harbour High School and Cornwall College was an exciting one. Old Harbour won with 48 points to Cornwall's 24.

Cornwall captain, Yannick Beckford, said, "We expected to win this game. I don't know what went wrong. This is my last year, but my other three members will be coming back next year."

Their coach, John Wright, said, "We expected to win coming into the match. They made some silly mistakes, especially with the mathematics and spanish. I believe that they were nervous and not very well composed."

Too excited

Old Harbour proved they were a force to be reckoned with from the very beginning. At first it seemed as if they were too excited to be careful, while the more restrained Cornwall College lagged behind. The first section ended with Old Harbour on 14, and Cornwall on 11. Cornwall was given an extra point for answering a chemistry question correctly, moving them to 12.

During the first minute of the second section, Old Harbour scored 25 points; 35 in the second minute, and 42 in their final minute. While Cornwall had 16 points in their first minute; 24 in their second minute, and 28 in their third.

Old Harbour cruised through the final section as Cornwall would need more than 20 points to catch up. Both teams ended the match with heads bowed - one in prayer, the other in sadness.

Old Harbour's captain, Shawn Williams, said they expected to win by a greater margin. "It was not really what we expected, we expected to go more. Cornwall was pressing the buzzer a lot, and hindered us a lot from going more. We expect to do much better in the next match."

The coach, Denzil Stewart, said, "Now that we are passed this stage we have some more things to work on and we are going to do that for the next match."
