POPULAR DANCER GERALD 'Bogle' Levy, 40, was shot dead this morning at a service station along Constant Spring Road, St. Andrew.
Hours later, in an incident believed to be a reprisal to his killing, the house of dancer John 'John Hype' Prendergast, with whom Bogle had differences with in recent times, was bombed and later destroyed by fire. No one was hurt in that incident.
Bogle and four other persons were buying gas at the station when two men rode up on a bike and one opened fire on them. The dancer was shot all over his body and died on the spot while the other four persons were taken to hospital where three were admitted and one treated and released.
Police told THE STAR that at about 2:35 a.m., Bogle had a altercation with some men at 'Weddy Weddy Wednesdays', held at Stone Love headquarters on Burlington Avenue in Half-Way Tree, St. Andrew. Bogle and his entourage reportedly left the venue and were at the service station when the gunmen struck.
Fire-bombed
About five hours later a family house on Dillion Avenue where dancer John Hype lives, was fire-bombed.
Hype's grandfather Vernet Kong, 80, told THE STAR that he was sitting in the yard at about 7 a.m. when he saw a group of men enter and one stayed at the gate. Another, he said, approached the room in which Hype stayed and was given a cannister which he threw into the house.
After it exploded a car drove up and some of the men got into the car which drove off while the others fled in different directions.
Beds, dressers, other furniture, clothing and appliances were seen in the yard this morning as firemen fought to bring the massive blaze, which resulted from the bombing, under control. Firemen at the scene were unable to give an official word as to the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile just a stone's throw away from where the fire was blazing, residents of Lincoln Crescent where Bogle lived, were in a tearful mood as they congregated along the road to mourn his death.
