84-y-o perishes in fire

ian allen
A woman looks at the burnt dwelling while a man searches through the rubble after a fire destroyed this home on Dee Cee Avenue in Tivoli Garden, West Kingston yesterday. The fire which began at about 3:15 a.m., burnt four homes before residents had a chance to save any of their belongings.

LILLY JACKMAN, 84, died yesterday when the building in which she was staying on Moreton Park Terrace, Kingston 10 was destroyed by fire.

Reports from the police are that at 1 p.m., passerbys saw fire coming from the building where the senior citizen was staying. An alarm was raised and the Fire Department was called.

Three fire units responded and extinguished the blaze. The charred remains of the senior citizen was taken from the rubble and removed to the morgue for post mortem.

An adjoining building was also damaged. Estimate of the loss is not yet ascertained and it is not known if the buildings were insured. The Half-Way Tree Police are investigating.
