DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Excelsior yesterday raced into the Manning Cup semi-final with their unbeaten record intact after thrashing Wolmer's 4-0 in a Group One quarter-final game at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.
In a game that started competitively enough, Exclesior pulled out an all-round performance, getting goals from Jermaine Gardner in the 38th, Hugh Howell in the 49th, Ricardo Ximines in the 64th, and Narado Brown in the 71st.
In other quarter-final games yesterday, Camperdown advanced as Group Two winners after a 0-0 draw with Dunoon at Excelsior and Calabar's 3-1 Group One victory over Tivoli at Ferdie Neita Park carried them to the semi-finals as the best second-place team.
George's move on
St. George's rounded off the semi-finalists with a 3-1 Group Three win over Spanish Town in the Ferdie Neita Park curtain-raiser.
Excelsior will meet St. George's and Camperdown will play Calabar in the November 13 semi-finals.
In the afternoon's early game at the Prison Oval, Bridgeport dispatched Meadowbrook 4-0, moving to five points while hoping for favourable results in other games. However, St. George's 3-1 win over Spanish Town and a similar scoreline in Calabar's favour over Tivoli ended their hopes.
Calabar's win moved them to to six points and the best second place.
Group two had an interesting battle between Camperdown and Dunoon who were at the top of the table with Camperdown having a one-point advantage. Camperdown maintained that advantage in a 0-0 draw to top the group as Mona faltered 0-1 against St. Andrew Technical at Vauxhall.
