Playing the number game

DEAR PASTOR,

Recently, my niece sent a package by courier service to Jamaica containing back-to-school things for her sons. This was in the care of her mother who is her sons' caretaker.

The guardian was told, however, that without a TRN number she couldn't collect the package though she had other identification. To date, she has been unable to get the package due to this hindrance.

I find this to be disgusting that such a small place like Jamaica should make life so unbearable for humble people.

The world wonders why crime is so high in Jamaica, well this is a partial answer. Jamaica has become such a copycat of USA that they even dig their own grave in the process. What Jamaica's policymakers do not realise is that if they are going to transplant other nation's legacy, they need to do so in its entirety.

Stringent laws

For instance, in U.S. there are stringent laws to 'fortify' the country's order, but there are also cushioning ones as well, eg. those promoting unemployment benefits. So Jamaica should adopt the whole kit and caboodle.

I have strayed a little, but I am just trying to say, that two children are kept out of school because there is a refusal on the courier's part to use their discretion. Time has gone and the children's grandmother doesn't have a birth certificate to get the so-called TRN. This is such a farce, it really is!

Dear V.B.,

Do not bash your country. That is not necessary. Seek solution to the problem. That is what is needed. If this lady can not get her TRN, the company would advice her what to do. But cussing, fussing and carrying on will not solve the problem.

I am sure that a Justice of the Peace or a prominent person in her community will be able to assist her.
