ONE OF THE most wanted men in the Kingston 20 area was on Friday sentenced to a total of 17 years' imprisonment when he appeared before a judge in the Corporate Area Gun Court.
Clayon Clayton, who is otherwise called Israel of Seaview Gardens in St. Andrew, was sentenced after he was found guilty on charges of of shooting with intent and illegal possession of firearm. The charges that were brought against him arose from an incident that occurred in the New Haven area of Kingston 20, last year.
Clayton was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment on the charge of shooting with intent, and seven years on the illegal possession of firearm charge. Fortunately for him the sentences are to run concurrently.
Police reports said that on November 3, 2003, police responded to a call that gunshots were being fired in the New Haven area of St. Andrew. When they arrived at Riverside Drive, the police reportedly saw citizens running in all directions. The citizens reported that Clayton and two other men descended on Sheraton Avenue firing shots, forcing people to flee their homes.
The police reportedly accosted the men who fired at them and then ran. The reports said further that a warrant was prepared for Clayton's arrest as he was said to be known to the police.
Consequently, he was picked up in the Vineyard Town police area in March this year and arrested and charged by Detective Constable Delroy Burris of the Duhaney Park police.
