ONE MAN WAS killed, two arrested and three firearms and a quantity of ammunition recovered during an alleged shootout between police and gunmen travelling in a stolen motor car at Hibernia in Manchester on Wednesday afternoon.
According to police reports, a team of policeimen from Christiana and Mandeville were conducting an operation in the Hibernia and Harry Watch areas at about 3 p.m. when they encountered a group of men acting suspiciously.
On the approach of the police the men opened fire. The fire was returned and the men ran. The police chased and apprehended two and one was later found suffering from gun shot wounds. He was taken to the Percy Junor Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. One imitation firearm was taken from his pants waist.
Further search revealed a .38 special undercover revolver with serial number 520418 with two live rounds and two .32 spent shells. The man is yet unidentified.
The other two men who were chased and caught, gave their name as Nicholas Francis, a 21-year-old artist of Spanish Town, St. Catherine and Andrew Brown, 22, a bus operator from Maxfield Avenue, Kingston 13. Both men were charged with shooting with intent and illegal possession of a firearm.
The police seized a white Sunny Nissan motor car registered 1648DH which the men were travelling in and which it was later discovered was stolen from Linstead, St. Catherine. One imitation firearm was also found in the car.
