AFTER THREE DAYS of preliminary competition, the first annual Jamaica Dance-Off Competition is set for an exciting finish this Saturday at Backyaad on Constant Spring Road.
The three nights have showcased some of Jamaica's biggest talents in the dancing arena, each night seemingly outdoing the other. The first two nights of competition was staged at Waterfalls, while Backyaad was the venue of choice for the third night.
From a pool of ninety-five entrants, sixty-four turned up and at the end of the preliminaries there were twelve males, eleven females and twenty groups in the finals.
The contestants on Monday were not of the highest quality, however on Tuesday night the competition belonged to Renaldo Barrett, the Crazy Stooges, Stacia Edwards and Andrea Plumber. It was hard to choose any individual or group from Wednesday night, the last night of the preliminaries, as the competition was really vigorous.
On Wednesday the judges and the ever-growing crowd were awed by what was presented onstage and the scores told the tale. Kevin & Joe and the Portmore Dance and Culture Group got perfect scores while a barrage of others came close.
Some of the strong contenders are: For the male category Renaldo Barrett, Menase Hinds and Broky Stew. For the female category Andrea Plumber, Stacia Edwards and Felicia Gooden. In terms of the groups it is almost impossible to pick a winner as most of the performers possess great potential.
