SPANISH TOWN:
SEVERAL MINIBUS OPERATORS plying the Kingston to May Pen and Mandeville route have been expressing great distress at a recent spate of robberies that have been taking place on the buses in the last couple of months, the last of which occurred on Saturday, June 19.
Reports reaching THE STAR said that at about 10 a.m, a Toyota Coaster minibus was proceeding towards Kingston when upon reaching Central Village, it stopped to pick up four men.
Brandished a gun
On reaching the Mandela Highway near the Caymanas Polo Club, one of men called out to the driver requesting that he stop the bus. The driver began to slow the bus down and another of the men brandished a gun and hit the driver on the back of his head.
The driver was then dragged from the seat and ordered to go to the back of the bus. Another of the robberss then took the steering and drove the bus past the Caymanas Golf Club. The four men then robbed all the passengers of an undetermined sum of money.
When they were done, the gunmen had to passengers board the bus and fired several shots into the air before escaping on foot. Te Central Village police confirmed that the matter was reported to them, describing the robbers as being daring. They said that plans are afoot to deal with the situation.
