Two killed in Spanish Town

By RASBERT TURNER, Star Writer

Spanish Town, St. Catherine:

SEVERAL BUSINESSES IN Spanish Town, St. Catherine, closed early yesterday following the shooting death of two residents of Young Street in the community.

The dead men are Otis Bowes, a sound system operator and an unidentified cane vendor. Two other persons were shot and injured in the incident, police told THE STAR.

Reports are that about 3:30 p.m. yesterday four men on foot armed with high power weapons proceeded down French Street and started firing shots. The four were hit but Bowes and the cane vendor died on the spot. The others were taken to hospital.

As a result of the shootings, a strong detachment of police personnel, headed by Senior Superintendent Clifford Blake, head of the St. Catherine North Police Division, was sent to the area.

One resident who wish not to be identified, told THE STAR she has been living in the area for more than a generation and has never seen anything like this. "Me live yah fi 42 years an me neva see nutten like dis happen," she said.

Several streets in Spanish Town were empty as a result of the shooting. Several vendors said they were given instruction to pack up and leave.

No motive has been established for the killing.
