Lacovia's sad legacy

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I read with much empathy the articles featured in THE STAR earlier this year entitled 'Lacovia High's Dance with Sex and Death'. It is frightening to know that 75 per cent of a school population have emotional and behavioural problems.

I am calling on the Ministry of Education to increase the number of guidance counsellors in schools so that they can adequately address these problems.

It is sad to know that a lot of similar problems occur as a result of broken homes. Jamaican men do not like to visit family counsellors or psychologists. They believe it's a 'soft' man who seeks the services of a counsellor.

I am, etc.,

ROGER WILLIAMSON
