THE EDITOR, Madam:

I am a 19-year-old college student from America here doing a work programme in Jamaica. Although most of my family and myself are Jamaican I have been raised in America.

I have heard some talk criticising America for many things, but I must say I have not heard of American schoolgirls having sex on public buses. I also do not believe that this behaviour has to do with entertainers or any form of media. I believe that parents have the most influence on their children, and if your child is having sex on the street in buses, that says something about you. Did you not instill a sense of pride, or dignity in your child; if you did I would not be writing this letter now.

I believe that before we, as a society, start to denounce entertainers and try to censor television or music, we need to take a look closer to home. There are a number of children that listen to the music and watch television and see it as it is ­ entertainment. Not all of us go out and imitate what we see. Only those that have no guidance, no sense of pride do that. These teens give the rest of us a bad name; I beg society not to group us all together.
