By DEPORTEE, STAR WriterDENISE CUMBERLAND IS a shy, conservative young lady but when the music is turned on and pumped up she transforms into the sexy, sensuous S.S.Stacey!
Dancing for approximately ten years, her moment in the sun came in 1999 when she won the coveted title of Dancehall Queen. Flashing a braces-filled-smile, this petite 'dawta' voluntarily divulged her all to THE STAR in between dancing.
"Dancing is my man. It is a natural thing, not a matter of choice," she said above the loud noise of the speaker boxes of Swatch International. "I feel a peace of mind, I take it deep and the feeling is good," she exclaimed ecstatic in revealing her love for dancing and music.
Since 'bussing' out in 1999, she has appeared in videos by Beenie Man, Chuck Fender and L.A. Lewis. She however mused to the fact that she is not a video girl. When pressed why, she flicked her tongue and her metallic mouth glistened in the dark. "I'm not a video girl, totally different. Some deejays want too much freeness. Dancing is my only work and me haffi eat a food."
Stacey says her main aim is to bring back the ladies into dancing in the dances.
"Selectors dem focusing on the man dem more. The video light is out thing, man a nyam food, woman fi nyam food to."
By now her sweat-drenched body was ready for more action. Climbing atop the high speaker boxes, Stacey jumped, flipped, stood on the top of her head, and gyrated with such ease that it would be such a treat seeing her and Junko facing off.
After climbing down, lifting her white blouse and showing her wonderfully constructed abs and a black push up bra, the dancer addressed the issue between her and Junko.
"Junko should have never won the Dancehall Queen title. It is an event highlighting Jamaica and Jamaican women, but she win and me caan fight that. Junko is a very good dancer. What me cut up over is that she gets to go on shows and it's like nobody else no count," she defiantly said.
"Me no bad mind, a nuh bad mind, me and she just do some show a Atlanta, Philly and Connecticut with Fire Links."
Stacey is one not to be outdone and shies not away from controversy.
One major thing she attributes to the culture of dancers like her excelling in the dancehall is one universal, ancient fact.
"Sex sells," she bluntly said.
"The man dem come fi see what me can do and when me wine dem imagine if me really can work like that or if me good inna bed."
"Are you?" was the question posed and like a shy girl of sixteen, she hopped off the hood of the car that she sat astride and giggled uncontrollably.
Recovering her poise, she smiled blushed apple red then calmy said "I have gotten no complaints."
With a hug, off she pranced to join the throng to be the Queen of the show. Psst S..S..Stacey, baby!
