CAR THEFT HAS been in existence since, since, well, cars were invented. Howsoever, people still refuse to take the few basic and, in all honesty, necessary, steps to protect their property.
As indicated in today's edition of THE STAR, residents are complaining that the area has become the target of car thieves. However, as the police point out, and justifiably so, these people are victims, in no small part, because they do not take the required precautions to prevent theft.
Kill switch
A car alarm may cost a certain sum of money, as does a 'kill switch', but when balanced against the time lost and expenses incurred when a vehicle is stolen, frankly enough, the cost is actually minimal.
To depend on an already over-worked police force for everything is, at best, unrealistic. People should take steps to protect themselves and their property, and are really not in a position to complain when thieves strike if they have not done so.
It is a matter of common sense really. People install grills and the like to protect their homes, they do not go into traditionally 'bad areas' if they do not have to, logic dictates that equivalent precautions be taken with regards to their motor vehicles.
Should people take the time to stop and think, quite a number of crimes could be prevented.
