16 teams in Spring Village Corner League
 Four of the sixteen teams competing in the Spring Village six-a-side corner league at the opening dress parade on Sunday. From left, Uptown United, Rockstone United, Don Forte and Twin Towers, winners of the dress parade. - Rasbert TurnerSpanish Town: SIXTEEN TEAMS WILL contest the Uptown DFT Promotions six-a-side football competition 2004, to be played in Spring Village, St. Catherine. The matches will be played on a knock out format, and will see teams playing for the grand prize of $100,000 first place while the team finishing second will pocket $50,000. The competition started yesterday on Sunday with a dress parade topped by Twin Towers. In the opening game Uptown United and Rockstone United played to a 1-1 draw. In an exciting second match Don Forte Terrace defeated Church Pen 3-0. According to the organiser of the league, Andrew Balgrove, a total of 31 matches will be played, two each Sunday, as the competition should end by August 15. Entry fee was $500. Balgrove said the area needs this form of activity.
Clean fun "I see where this six-a-side corner league will work wonders for Spring Village and surrounding communities to take the youth off the road and give them the opportunity to have clean fun." Balgrove told STAR Sports that the sponsor of the competition is a former footballer who resides abroad and wants to give back to his community through sports. The participating teams are, Rockstone United, Twin Tower, Veterans, Donfort Terrace, Famous One, Unity, All Stars, High House A, Church Pen, High House B, Bay Warriors, Young Strikers, Health Aid United, All Eyes On Me and Sharper Lane United. Each match is played over 60 minutes. Games will be played at the Spring Garden All Age School and the Jamaica Broilers playfield in Spring Village.
