Education and the PTA

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I think Prime Minister Patterson needs to instruct all PNP Members of Parliament and PNP officials to go into our primary schools and appeal to parents to make their Parent Teachers Association (PTA) contribution for the 2003-2004 school year.

During the last General Election campaign the ruling party took a message of free education for the people at the primary level. Many people have taken that message to mean that they should not contribute any money at all to the primary schools.

As a result of this action by the PNP during the last General Election campaign many of our primary schools are experiencing a great shortfall in the collection of PTA contributions.

Development plans and maintenance programmes have been severely affected in many of our primary schools as a result of low PTA financial support.

Kindly allow me to use this medium to appeal to primary school parents to pay up their PTA contributions for the 2003-2004 school year. Such actions by these parents would serve to avert any serious decay of the primary school system.

I am, etc.,

HUGH ANDERSON A. BLAIR
