No reason to celebrate

THE WEST INDIES grabbed the three-match one day series between them and Bangladesh on Sunday with a 23 run victory in St. Vincent. The victory gave the West Indies an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series with the final match set for tomorrow in Grenada.

There were lots of smiles and praises hea-ped on the West Indians who, only the day before, narrowly missed losing a nail biting match. In that match, while many in the West Indies camp were happy with the win, it was evident from the looks on their faces, that they were definitely not happy with how they had to fight and struggle for it. In fact it seems as if Saturday's win was not a win and we can't blame those who feel that way because going to a nail-biting finish with a team like Bangladesh was never something anyone would think the West Indies capable of.

But as far as we see it, Sunday's victory was nothing to celebrate seeing the Windies only won by 23 runs. Cricket is indeed a game of glorious uncertainties and sometimes one can expect the unexpected but a nail-biting finish with a team that has never won a one day series was not something anyone, moreso a West Indian could have imagine.

The level of West Indies cricket has really dropped and now we wait with an open mind to see the outcome of the Test series.
