NEW WRAY AND Nephew National Premier League champions will be crowned this year.

Yesterday, in a gutsy performance, Harbour View clipped defending champions Portmore United 2-1 in the second leg of their two-way semi-final at the National Stadium.

In the second game of the double-header Lenworth Hyde Jr. capped off a remarkable 90-minute performance with a hat-trick to help Tivoli Gardens join the 'Stars of the East' in the final with a dominating 6-2 victory over Village United.

Last Wednesday's first-leg matches meant that Harbour View won 2-1 on aggregate, having drawn the first leg 0-0, while Tivoli had a 7-2 aggregate win, having won the opening leg 1-0.

Harbour View scored through Christopher Harvey in the 61st, and Luton Shelton in the 84th minutes. Substitute Oneil 'Chippy' McDonald scored a short-lived 73rd minute equaliser for Portmore United.

In the feature, Hyde, playing like a man with a point to prove, notched up three outstanding goals (38th, 55th, and 66th) for his first hat-trick in the Premiership.

Hyde wasn't, however, the only destructive force coming from the 'Tangerine Brigade', that had strikes from Marvin Morgan (14th), Fabian Davis (58th), and Andrew Chisholm in the 85th minute of play.

Defence-splitting pass

Davis' efforts were also very commendable. The National representative stamped his class with two free-kicks that were saved by the woodwork only to be put back into the net via the rebound route.

Hyde also featured in a fourth goal when he turned inside the box, beating three players and made a defence-splitting pass to Roland Dean who left it for Davis to side-foot home.

Village had two second-half consolation goals that came too late. With the score at 5-0, Dwayne Cole was the recipient of a through ball from Ian McAnuff that he hit powerfully past Philmore Crumbie at his near post in the 72nd minute of play. Fabian Dawkins made it 5-2 two minutes later when he found himself on the end of a Preston Bernard cross that came on the back of some beautiful work by the central defender.

Tivoli coach, Glendon 'Admiral' Bailey was surprised at the margin of victory but thought his team had finally proved a point.

"If somebody had told me that this would happen I would have said nothing like that because Village are a quality team," said Bailey.

"All season we've been begging for more goals and today we unleashed them and hopefully we can carry this on to the finals," he added.

A tearful Village coach, Loyd Williams, had no idea what caused his team's poor 90 minute performance, saying that his plans just went to pieces.

"Everything went wrong, we conceded early goals and we just never played to our game plan. The game plan was to hold them to half-time and then they would whither because we know that they can't take pressure. But we opened up too early and just opened up at the back," he said.
