Dear Pastor,
I came to the US for quite a while now, but it has been hell for me. I have been accused of so many things.
It is awful. Everything started when my sister and her husband started taking money from me saying they would get my green card for me. I worked and gave them money many times but they did nothing. They would not lift a finger to help me. All they did was to take my money. I couldn't take it anymore, so I asked them to try and look about my papers. They said they would do it the following day. They still didn't do anything about it. I waited for months and nothing happened. The weekend when I went home I asked them again to start the papers or give me back my money. It caused an argument. They threw out my suitcase and called Immigration on me. I knew no one here. I picked up my suitcase and went into the garbage room and a lady who lived across the hallway from us took me in. I was unable to stay there because they knew that Immigration was coming and she couldn't take the risk. I understood fully. I had to leave.
Bad living arrangement
I went to stay with another lady, but she was living with her mother-in-law. They fought like dogs daily and her mother-in-law told me that I couldn't stay there. The only person I knew was my sister's ex-husband. I asked him if I could stay at his house until I found my way out. He gladly said yes, but he did not hesitate to take advantage of me. He was willing to help me with my papers.
I am the one suffering. He and his family scandalized me and told all kinds of lies on me. They went and told people how I said I hate niggers. He was abusing me. After he stepped out of the house I said I hate that nigger. His sister did not tell people what I said. I can't even walk in peace because people want to kill me. I have been accused of taking away my sister's husband and God know it is not true. It is not hard for anyone to check out.
When my sister came here she lived with a man and she had three children for him. They got married. The both of them took my money and threw me out. Why would I want to have anything to do with that thief. I should have known better because my sister had borrowed money from me when I was in Jamaica to pay her fare and we agreed for her to use that same money to help me to come to the U.S. But she didn't do that. I kept on waiting and writing her letters and she would not help me until one day she came out and I asked her when she was going to help me. She told me she was not going to help me because I would come and get rich and she did not help me. It was my cousin's wife who helped me and even after I came up she did not want to see me. She and her husband called Immigration on me.
Please give me your fatherly advice. The only thing that I am guilty of was trying to get my papers and being so naive to let people take advantage of me in the process. Please pray for me and any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated. God bless you and keep up the good work.

Dear D.P.,
I suggest that you contact a lawyer who has experience in dealing with Immigration. I am sure if you ask around people would give you the names of such lawyers. I believe that you are an honest woman and you are only trying to receive legal status. I regret hearing of your plight. Keep courage. Things would not be the same. You would get permanent status and you would be free to work without fear. Do not hate anybody. Do not curse anybody. Trust in the Lord.
