Alleged thief chopped

By NAGRA PLUNKETT, Staff Reporter

Western Bureau:

A MAN WHO reportedly attempted to rob craft vendors at Blood Beach in Negril, Westmoreland, on Tuesday evening, was badly chopped and an illegal firearm taken from him.

He was subsequently handed over to the police.

The alleged robber has been identified as Prince Campbell, 47, of Green Island, Hanover. Campbell was admitted in the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital but it is not known if the injuries he received are life-threatening.

Demanded money

Police reports are that about 5:45 p.m. Campbell went to the beach, which is in the vicinity of Negril Cabins, where he allegedly pulled a gun on a group of male vendors and demanded money.

He reportedly attempted to discharge the weapon but it failed to fire. It is said that one of the men then jumped on their attacker and held him while the others assisted in wrestling the gun from him. He was then reportedly chopped.

Campbell and the 9mm Zigzaw semi-automatic pistol, with an empty magazine, were later handed over to the Negril Police.
