YOU KNOW I was telling My Friend P that there are some things that Jamaicans do that I am sure they think are real cool - but when you really get down to the guts of what they are doing - they are not cool at all.
For example: someone needs to tell people that using zinc as a perimeter fence for your home is not cool. No people, it is not a fashion statement. As the years go by there can be only one thing that will happen to a zinc fence - it will begin to look tacky and more tacky. Seriously people, shelf the zinc fence idea - grow a hedge or stack stones.
Equally you uptowners with your perimeter walls that are 12 feet high and who also think it looks oh so cool because it shows you how wealthy they might be - seriously it too looks shabby. The most decent looking communities are those that have standard level fences neat and fine.
Security, I hear, is why you have the wall. Well here is the drill - if someone really wants to get you, a high wall is not going to stop them.
Women please, walking out in public with your setters uncovered and grinning your teeth is not cool. No ladies, it is not a fashion statement.
Gentlemen who think that it is really the in-thing to have a fast car - because it makes them feel young. Putting a spoiler on your car that is six feet high is not cool. It looks silly and it really defeats the true purpose of the spoiler.
Luck of the dogs
You know, being a dog must really be a terrible lot in life. Just imagine, according to our lead story today it is now seemingly very clear that some dogs were unjustly treated - murdered if you will. These dogs were tried, found guilty, sentenced to death and executed all in one day after the body of a woman was found with dog bites near an old people's home in Kingston in January. The suggestion is now that the woman was dead before the dogs bit her body.
From the beginning I was very upset with the fingering of the dogs and it hurt my heart to see the photos of the dogs, who I thought then were innocent, being put to death.
Seriously it seemed quite obvious that a pack of dogs would not just suddenly get up one morning have a conference meeting and say to each other let's go kill this one woman. No. It did not add up. The dogs were just vicious for a day no it does not make sense.
But that is what you can call a dog's justice. I am forced to wonder how many people in certain parts of the secret Jamaica that exists in pockets in the city and deep rural Jamaica, experience the justice of the dogs from the old people's home?
How many people you tell me.
