Vere, Holmwood clash again
By ANTHONY FOSTER, Freelance Writer  Vere's Simone Facey crossing the finish line in the 4x100m at the recent Penn Relays. - ContributedVERE TECHNICAL AND Holmwood Technical head the girls' sprint and mile relay teams while Calabar and Wolmer's head the boys' relays for Friday's High Schools Relays at the Jamaica International Invitational set for the National Stadium. The Hayes, Clarendon-based Vere upset Holmwood at the Penn Relays, but Holmwood still have the fastest time over the distance and should again start favourites in the female 4x100m. At 'Penns' Vere clocked 44.32 just below the 44.26 Holmwood ran at Girls Championships. This race also includes Edwin Allen High, The Queens, Manchester High, St. Andrew High, Alpha and St. Jago. St. Elizabeth Technical are the reserve team. Teams will be allowed to use their fastest athletes regardless of class. At the Penn Relays Vere's coaches used two Class Two and two Class One girls to upset an all Class One Holmwood quartet. Top local schoolgirl sprinter Simone Facey ran the anchor leg for Vere. In the girls' mile relay, Holmwood will start favourites against Edwin Allen, Manchester, Vere, The Queens, Morant Bay, St. Andrew and an ISSA Development Team, which includes Nickiesha Anderson (Herbert Morrison), Nickiesha Wilson (Alpha), Kadese Spencer (Mannings), Chanique Cousins (Immaculate), Shereka Williams (St. Elizabeth) and Keneisha Reid (Pembroke Hall).
Sprint relay
In the boys sprint relay, Calabar head the list which includes Vere, St. George's, Jamaica College, Wolmer's, Holmwood who could spoil the party with the inclusion of Omar Brown, Central High and Kingston College. Morant Bay and St. Jago are the reserves. Again with the inclusion of Brown for the 4x400m, Holmwood will feel they have a chance to upset Wolmer's who beat them at Champs and Gibson Relays. Calabar, St. Elizabeth, Kingston College, Morant Bay along with ISSA Rural and Urban Development teams. Carlington Morgan (Knox), Kevoy Douglas (Clarendon College), Kennie Shelly (Clarendon College), Jason Edwards (Central), Nester Carter (Manchester) and Jair Francis (Manchester) are the rural members. The urban team of Rohan Phipps (Tivoli), Ricardo Clarke (Bridgeport), Leford Green (Greater Portmore), Michael Gardener (Norman Manley) and Anthony Nelson (Ascot) could surprise the pack.
