A 21-YEAR-OLD WORKER of Facey Commodities Limited in the Kingston Free Zone is facing larceny and conspiracy charges after 27 boxes of Digicel phone cards, valued at $25 million dollars, went missing.
The accused, Shawnalee Tucker of Newland Heights, Ewarton, St. Catherine, who entered a not guilty plea at the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday, was remanded in custody until tomorrow.
According to the Newport West police, a recent audit, carried out at the warehouse, located at 51-52 Caracas Avenue, New Kingston, revealed that between January 7 and April 22, 2004, 25 boxes, valued at $1 million each, containing 1,000 Digicel cards each, could not be accounted for when no invoices could be found to indicate the sale of the cards.
Tucker was in charge of the sterile area where the boxes were located. The boxes were said to be smuggled out of the warehouse in the four-month period, removing as low as $10,000 to as high as $100,000 worth of cards at a time.
The investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Mitchell requested that Tucker be remanded until investigations are completed.
The attorney representing Tucker, Hugh Wilson, will make an application for bail come tomorrow.
