Ramcharan, Williams extradition case begins May 13

EXTRADITION PROCEEDINGS, involving Montego Bay businessmen, Leebert 'Ponytail' Ramcharan and Donovan 'Plucky' Williams, accused of being major drug dealers in an international money laundering and drug smuggling ring, will begin on Thursday, May 13, 2004.

Ramcharan and Williams appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle at the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate court yesterday.

Official international documents outlining the allegations against the two men are now in the hands of the prosecution. The men were again remanded in custody until next week Thursday.

In March 3, local narcotics agents, with the assistance of the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) held Ramcharan, owner of the Caribbean Showcase and Caribbean Beach Park, at his lavish home in Spring Farm, Montego Bay, St. James. Williams was held in a similar narcotics operation in the parish, where vehicles and documents were confiscated. They were airlifted to Kingston where they were formally interrogated and charged.

The men, placed under providential arrest at the request of the United States authorities for conspiracy to export drugs, have been incarcerated for more than two months.
