The Editor,Madam;
While planning a birthday party for my grandmother, it occurred to us that there may be some in Jamaica who may still remember Sybil Bramwell McPherson. She was born in Kingston on May 8, 1914. She was trained as a nurse at the Kingston Public Hospital and worked at the St. Joseph Hospital in Kingston.
Sybil married Milton McPherson on September 5, 1933. Milton McPherson and the Royal Jamaicans were a popular dance band in Kingston. Mack's Empire Club on the corner of Cross Roads and Retirement Grove was operated by Milton McPherson.
Sybil and Milton had two sons, Gene and Mickey, while living in Kingston on Moore Street. Eventually, they moved their small family to Jamaica, Queens in New York.
After almost 61 years of truly wedded bliss, theirs was a love affair of which most can only dream. Milton died in September of 1994. He was buried on their anniversary. Today, Sybil lives in Albany, NY with Mickey and his wife, Ellen.
Sybil is still a beautiful woman, full of life and keeps up with family and friends. On special occasions, she still cooks our favorite Jamaican foods. There are now 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, all of whom love their grandmother totally.
I hope that you will include some mention of my grandmother in your publication. She has been a subscriber of the Gleaner for several years.
