By DAVID DUNKLEY, Staff ReporterA NIGHTCLUB ON the outskirts of West Green, an upscale community in Montego Bay St. James, has rattled the moral senses of the residents, according to citizens association president, George Edwards.
The club, called the All Inclusive Club, which offers patrons a wide range of entertainment including live sex, opened several weeks ago, much to the chagrin of the residents. According to reports, several patrons flock the club, especially weekends when they have special shows with risque themes.
But the West Green residents do not like it one bit and want the club closed.
Edwards told THE WEEKEND STAR: "It was brought to our attention that they have all forms of oral sex and go-go dancing there and we are totally against the idea of having such a club here as it will depreciate the value of the houses in the community."
"We are trying our best, Edwards added, to see what we can do to prevent the club from being granted a licence."
Edwards said the association has written to the police, the parish council and will deliver a letter to the courts' office stating their concerns about the club. A letter will also be sent to the club's proprietors.
The residents' constant complaints forced the police to make a raid at the club and close it down sometime ago. During that raid, several bottles of liquor were seized and the operators were charged and fined for breaches of the Spirits Act. One of the dancers, who cursed the police and took off her clothes during the raid, was also arrested and charged with indecent exposure. She has since absconded bail.
The police say the owners were not prosecuted under the Noise Abatement Act as the club was in an enclosed area and no one could hear the noise from outside. Neither were there any arrests made in connection with the live sex acts at the club as the police say at the time of the raid these acts were not observed.
One of the club's operators told THE WEEKEND STAR that as far as he knew the club was not in the West Green community and was not disturbing any of the residents. He said what happens in the club is behind closed doors and ought to be for those who like that type of entertainment.
"They have a guest house over there (in the West Green community), they have other businesses over there, why don't they try to close them down?" the club operator asked. "Is only me alone them have strength for?"
The proprietor said apart from complaints he has heard 'by the way', he has never received an official complaints from any of the West Green residents. He said most of the unofficial complaints he has heard of have come from mostly women who must be wondering and worried if their husbands or boyfriends visit the club. "Them must come to the club and see what the girls are doing and learn," he suggested.
But residents say it was the youngsters from the community who were attending the club and all the children know and talk about it. In fact, when she was given the location of the club, it was a child who had to help her with the directions. "You see, even the kids them know bout it. They are corrupting the children," she said.
Another resident said that during the days, the dancers, who live on the club's premises, could be seen washing and hanging out clothes naked.
"Is like them don't care," he said.
