THE EDITOR, Madam:
I am saddened that Jamaicans do not use their creativity anymore on a big scale the way Bob Marley did. Waterfronts around the world are sources of huge profits, in Amsterdam, waterways are part of the lifeblood of the Dutch economy.
Along any river in Europe you can see restaurants and benches for people to sit down and listen to music.
The Kingston harbour is a goldmine in waiting so to speak.I remember taking a huge risk by walking to the Harbour to look at the birds in the morning and the fishermen plying their trade and the stillness of the 'Dead Sea' which is now Kingston Harbour. I am sure that only someone like Michael Lee Chin can see the millions that could be made from the waterfront. Employment for people in catering, entertainers and boatmakers.
Why do Jamaicans undersell themselves so often and find reasons for not improving? Why do Jamaicans create obstacles to development? When Bob Marley spoke of freeing the mind he may also have meant to stop having so much fear and so much hesitation. Jamaica has nothing to lose by trying.
I am, etc.,
