Reading releases Daley early

PREMIER LEAGUE champions Portmore United could have Reggae Boy Omar Daley in their line-up ahead of the Wray and Nephew Premiership semi-finals after the young Jamaica international was released by English First Division club Reading.

However, Portmore United Manager Clive Marshall has said Daley's stay in Jamaica won't be a long one as he is slated to leave for England in the summer.

Daley has apparently been invited for trials by Second Division Barnsley.

"Omar has been released from Reading and should arrive tonight. He has been cleared to play for Portmore and we would accept him with open arms but that happening all depends on him," Marshall told STAR Sports.

"We will be in dialogue with the young man but until then we cannot confirm whether or not he willl appear for us this season," he added.

The midfielder, who will turn 23 Sunday, joined the club on a season-long loan in August, but he had been unable to gain first-team

involvement in recent months and has returned to the Caribbean a few weeks ahead of schedule.

Daley, who played for Jamaica at the 2001 FIFA (Under-20) World Youth finals in Argentina and also appeared at last year's CONCACAF Gold Cup in the United States, made seven substitute appearances during his time at Reading.

"Omar came at the start of the season on a year's loan and unfortunately never really managed to establish himself with us," Director of Football at Reading Nick Hammond told the Reading web site.

"He was an excellent professional, never missed a day's training and has a super attitude but he probably found the English game very different to what he's used to and struggled to establish his most effective position.

But he is still young and we wish him very well in the future," Hammond said.

Daley's departure leaves Bermuda's Shaun Goater as the only Caribbean player on the Reading roster.
