I just don't get it!

SPECIAL F AND I went to watch The Passion of the Christ last week. I went because there is so much hoopla about the movie. I work in the media, it did amazingly well at the box office and it is a great way to spend time with my loved one. Having gone to see this movie that has had so much written and said about it before it was released I am at a loss to get it. First up colleague at work Y said the movie should really have been called 'The Beating of the Christ', and she is right because that is just all that the movie was.

I was sorely disappointed as Special F indicated any movie that is worth being called a movie [i.e. you have taken up hard earned cash to purchase a ticket at the cinema to watch] must have an intermission. Further Special F pointed out that director Mel Gibson clearly has a writ against people who are facing challenges with literacy. Produced with all subtitles, and a dialogue in Aramaic is pushing the issue as to whether people were expected to see and absorb anything but 'The Beating of Christ'.

Let's face it. The story of Jesus ain't exactly new and improved after all those Good Fridays of Jesus; Jesus of Nazereth and whatever other televised movies of the crucifixion event that people exposed to Christian societies would have seen ad nauseam. Placing the dialogue in Aramaic to remain true to the story line is of course a croc because there is no way the Jesus was white really. And check this, for most of us watching the film we wouldn't know Aramaic any different from the language spoken by the Klingons on Star Trek! So what the hell was the point.

Maybe I am not religious enough to get it. Or maybe I am too religious. Either way I confess I don't get what the hoopla was and is about. On the scale of 1-10 the movie is easily a 3 ranking right up there, sorry, down there, with the ridiculousness of the number of people killed in Rambo - First Blood.

'The Beating of the Christ' challenges the beliefs of many people who had confidence in the truth of the crucifixion story suddenly it is made so unrealistic that you really wonder was this how the story really went?

Bolt and Lara

Last week I asked which of the records was sweeter, the Bolt 19.93 or the Lara 400 runs. I vote for Bolt. He is so young and so mature that it really makes you wonder where will he end and what on earth is going to happen in the summer.
