Glenmuir destroy Hampton

By ANDREA DOWNER, Staff Reporter

The victorious Glenmuir team. - Carlington Wilmot

GLENMUIR HIGH DEMOLISHED Hampton High School in the first match of the quarter finals round in the Schools' Challenge Quiz

yesterday.

Glenmuir was in their usual victory-hungry mode and pulled ahead of Hampton from the first section of the competition. They ended that section with nine points to Hampton's 5.

They moved into the second section with even more gusto than they had displayed in the previous section and answered question after question in rapid bursts. For their efforts, they gained an additional 18 points to close that section on 27, 12 more than Hampton, which trailed by 15.

In the final section where the buzzer can make or break a team's chances, Glenmuir apparently could do no wrong. They beat the Hampton team to the buzzer on numerous occasions and more often than not, got the nod from moderator Francois St. Juste for the answers that they gave. They sealed their victory with a convincing 47 points to Hampton's 21.

Ironically, even the members of the Hampton team were awed by Glenmuir's sophistication. When asked to comment on the match, all four used similar adjectives for the Glenmuir team.

Andraya Lewis of Hampton said though her team was disappointed with their loss, Glenmuir was a very good team.

"Glenmuir is a wonderful team," Nakisha Duncan, the team's captain gushed. "They came prepared and they played a good match," she concluded.

Romain Simpson of Glenmuir told THE STAR that he thought his team racked up a "fair score" and that their performance was "decent" but they could have done a little better.

Oral Young, the team's captain, Errol Thomas and Christopher McKay also represented Glenmuir.

Rona Smalling and Rushina Pusey were the other team members of Hampton High.
