INSTEAD OF WATCHING Brian Lara set the new Test batting record at the Antigua Recreation Grounds as he had intended over the Easter weekend, a Westmoreland man who thought he was helping out a 'decent looking man' is facing drug charges.
The Montego Bay Resident Magistrates Court heard on Friday that Shane Williams, a 21-year-old technician of Smithfield, Westmoreland was getting ready to board a flight to Antigua on April 10 when his suitcases were security checked and found to contain 15.88kg (35lbs) of ganja.
Albert Morgan, the attorney representing Williams, told the court his client was not guilty of trying to smuggle ganja but was tricked into taking responsibility for the bag.
Mr. Morgan said his client was planning to go watch the Test match between the West Indies and England and was his first time traveling when he was asked by a "respectable looking man" to check in a bag for him and to put his name on the tag and he did so out of ignorance.
Williams was offered $400,000 bail and is to return to court today.
