National volleyball squads named

THE JAMAICA VOLLEYBALL Association has named its male amd female squads for the Caribbean Volleyball Champion-ships (CVC) to be held in Barbados, June 25 to July 4.

The female squad consists of 27 players while 21 male players have been chosen.

The female team is comprised of: Kamille Dwyer, Shanique Green, Cherine Richards, Cheryl Daley (UWI); Keisha Edwards, Najwa Pagon, Shedieky Hamilton, Renae Temple, Ashereen Maxwell, Kai Wright, Cherie Thompson, Shaunette March, Avaniki Campbell (Jamaica Juniors); Ptamony Fletcher, Marjorie Queisada, Natalie Carty (Venus); Shelly Ann Earl, Claudia Miller (Viqueens); Hyper Nelson, Kareen Dawkins (MOSA); Angella Watt, Nicole Mannings (Rockettes); Dionne Coley, Simone Forbes, Tracey Ann Pryce (Overseas based); Kelly Ann Taylor (GC Foster) and Kimaly Campbell (Mystic).

Six nominations

The University of the West Indies male team heads the list with six nominations, Marlon Williams, Andre McLean, Delford Morgan, Neil Williams, Hank Williams and Richard Reynolds (UWI); defending national champions, Vikings has four with Errol Smith, Daney Wilson, Conorado Taylor, and Dellan Brown, while the list is completed with Patrico Grant, Ryan Davis, Ocan Allen (Jamaica Juniors); Ricardo Chong, Kenneth Reid, Daymian Bigby (Venus); Gatasheu Bonner (JDF); Jason Lawrence (GC Foster); Mark Lewis (MOSA) and Namarie Gordon, Steve Reid (overseas based).

The coaching team will come from Roy Taylor (UWI); O'Neil Ebanks (Wolmer's); Dervent Clarke and Ortnel Findlay (Venus) and they will work with technical director Phillip Greenland. The trainer is Marcello Gooden.

The teams will continue their preparation on Monday, April 19 (male) and Tuesday, April 20, (female) at the UTECH facility starting at 6:00pm each day.

According to a release from JVA the University of the West Indies, University of Technology and GC Foster College have all offered their facilities at very reasonable rates for the training sessions.

The association requires J$2.5 million dollars to attend the championship in Barbados.
