IF THERE IS a story that the newspapers carry nearly as consistently as the standard reports of police killings, it is about deejays and sexual offences.
Just change the name, the date and a couple details and the reports are the same.
Yesterday, it was the turn of Frisco Kid or, to give him his Rastafarian title, Ancient Monarchy. If he is guilty or not it is up to the courts to decide. If he is, then he will have good company in Jah Cure and Zebra.
What is especially galling about this case, though, is the police report that he picked up a 15-year-old schoolgirl from school and had sex with her.
Fifteen years old.
One of Frisco Kid's songs is titled Little and Cute; this girl is certainly little, but the case is not cute at all.
In our music crazed society and the clothespin mentality of many young women who follow up the dancehall scene, it does not take much for an entertainer to have sex with a woman.
It is flung at them left, right and centre.
It is natural that especially young girls are very susceptible to the hype which surrounds artistes.
It is not natural that the male artistes, big men all, should take advantage of this fascination.
We are not naive enough to believe that the young girls who have sexual liaisons with deejays and such the like are innocent victims. In the words of deejay Louie Culture, there are many girls who 'ol before dem young'.
That is no excuse for an adult male to sleep with them. There is a thing called responsibility, which comes with maturity.
As a man you learn to exercise it, or you may end up in the lock-up waiting to see if the court will set you free.
