A 23-YEAR-old suspect who was detained by police in Westmoreland in connection with the slaying of a security guard at the The Manning's High School recently, is to face an identification parade.
Detective Sergeant Rudolph Grant, acting divisional detective inspector for the Savanna-la-Mar Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), told THE STAR that preparations are in place to have the ID parade held by mid-week.
He noted that the suspect, who was held by the police five days ago, is still in police custody. "We took the man in question into police custody on Thursday," said Detective Sergeant Grant on Sunday. "We are making plans to have the ID parade early this week, at least by the latest Wednesday."
The suspect is accused of fatally stabbing 47-year-old security guard Rockford Meylor on the comnpound of the Mannings School in Savanna-la-Mar.

Reports from the Savanna-la-Mar police said that at about 6:10 a.m. last week Wednesday, Meylor discovered that someone had removed items from a food cart, which was parked at the rear of the school. Reports also said that Meylor discovered that some of the items were packed away in a nearby classroom.
The security guard and the cart owner subsequently chased the alleged thief. On reaching the guardroom, the guard reportedly threw a stone at the alleged thief, lost his balance and fell.
According to the police, the alleged robber, then used a large knife to stab the guard in the back while he was still off-balance. The suspect then fled the scene.
Meylor was assisted by a passing motorist to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
