To protect and to serve

THE EDITOR, Madam:

Please permit me space in your column to vent my feelings of despair and displeasure concerning the brutal slaying of our police officers. Firstly, my condolences to the families of the police officers slain by the hands of gunmen.

Many police officers have had their lives snatched away from them by gunmen, who feel they have the right to destroy those who protect us. Several citizens of Jamaica know these gunmen, some are even eyewitnesses to these devastating incidents. And no one is bold enough to speak up, no one apparently feels that a very important life has been taken, so we should grieve and mourn for such a great loss.

The policemen and women of Jamaica are here to serve and to protect us, not the gunmen. We all should work with them to make Jamaica a better place and to rid Jamaica of crime and violence by supporting those who are here to protect us in every way they can.

I am, etc.,
