By ANTHONY FOSTER, Freelance WriterMEADOWBROOK High recovered from a precarious 59 for six to reach 158 all out on the opening day of the Grace Shield semi-final against Spanish Town High at Meadwobrook yesterday.
A 99-run sixth wicket stand between Sean Whitehorne and Bernard Burton got the home team past the 150 mark.
Whitehorne made 63 and Burton 31. Spanish Town were 16 without loss at the close.
Meadowbrook lost their first wicket, Kevon Goldson, without a run on the board while Diego Clarke, nine, Robert Williams, zero, Dennis Bulli, 15, Tavia Mitchell, zero, and Errol Chambers, eight, were all dismissed early.
However, two deliveries after he dropped an easy catch offered by Burton, Ricardo Ennis returned to pick up the wicket of Whitehorne, caught at bat pad by Junior Mckenzie. He hit four fours and a six off 166 deliveries.
In the very next over, left-arm spinner Iva Johnson picked up the final three wickets, first he removed Burton, caught at bat pad by Goldson. Carl Spence and Cornel Kitson also left to the left-arm spinner who ended with 3-30. Goldson got 3-19 and Waynbe Morgan 2-9.
In the other semi-final, St. Catherine made 146 with Djorn Cooper getting 34 against off-spinner Ricardo Montgomery (3-23). In reply, Kirk Brook hit 70 to lead Jonathan Grant to 120 for four at the close. Play continues today.
