Still no help for acid victim

By LEIGHTON WILLIAMS, Staff Reporter

Broderick Grant - File

SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER the story of Broderick Grant was first published, he is yet to receive help towards doing surgery on his face THE STAR understands.

However, a possible reason why nothing has happened is because Broderick Grant does not have a bank account.

Grant's story was published in THE STAR in January when an account of how his face was disfigured in 1995 was given. Shortly after the story appeared, several persons expressed an interest in helping the young man. However, so far none of the promises have borne fruit.

"Nothing has happened so far although we have got a lot of offers for help. People have promised to help us but we have got nothing," said Errol Grant Broderick's father.

He added that the main reason his son did not have a bank account was because of the information received from the banks.

"We went to the bank to open an account but they said an organisation would have to do it as we couldn't do it by ourselves since we were trying to raise money and not necessarily to save," said Errol Grant.

He said, he has contemplated using his personal account. However, since he wanted his son to benefit fully from the help he decided against it.

The senior Grant explained that someone had approached them to put on a stage show from which the proceeds would have been used to help his son. He said he had passed on the information surrounding the inability to open an account for his son and the person had told him he would take care of that aspect. However, to date, he is yet to hear any updates on the progress of this arrangement.

"I don't know what happened. As they said they would open the account for him to get some help and put on a stage show for him. However, I have not heard anything for a while," he said.

Although he is unable to help his son financially in terms of paying for the operation, he is hopeful that someone will step forward and help.

"I don't have no money because I am just a security guard. But, I know people out there want to help and that's why I'm hoping that an organisation will try to help him," said Errol Grant.
