Kip Rich joins Big Yard Music family
By GERMAINE SMITH, Staff Reporter Kip Rich - FileKIP RICH HAS joined the Big Yard Music Group Ltd., a label which boasts the likes of Shaggy, Rik Rok, Brian and Tony Gold, among others. The deejay has unofficially been under the banner for nearly a year now, but formalised his relations with the group recently. Big Yard honcho Robert Livingston told THE STAR that for the time being, they will perform management services for Kip Rich, with the option for other deals and engagements opened up later. He added that their choice of Kip Rich was made because of certain aspects of the deejay's nature. "Kip Rich is a character and he can do a lot of things. I think he has a package that we can work with," Livingston explained yesterday. "If you have watched him you would see that he can do things, on-stage and otherwise. Added to this he has conditioned his mind to work hard. He has good work ethics and that is important right now."
Staying afloat
The fast-talking Kip Rich has been a more or less stable artiste on the local scene. Since his dancehall debut Leggo The Bwoy dropped in 1997, Kip Rich has managed to stay afloat. He told THE STAR that he was elated about landing under the Big Yard banner, even though being there means work. "A whole heap a serious work gwaan a Big Yard, everybody knows that," he told THE STAR. "I am willing to do it though, cause I am not afraid of work. We ready for anything cause we know how to work." In recent times, Kip Rich has been the 'right hand lieutenant' of Elephant Man. The two, along with Ninja Kid and Roundhead, have made a good number of appearances together in the Unites States during Elephant Man's tours. He however has managed to keep his presence in the local dancehalls by constantly recording. This, according to him, happens because he sees his dancehall career as other tradesmen see their jobs. "This is my trade, music. You see like how a tradesman does his thing, that's how I handle my work." So far he added, there are no album plans yet, but he is working on a couple of tracks produced by Livingston.
