WHY ON EARTH does anyone get involved with drugs?
For the money of course.
However, is it really worth it? Practically every day THE STAR carries the story of some poor misguided fool who has attempted to export drugs out of the island in a varied number of uncomfortable and dangerous ways. Those who get caught and are convicted usually tell a sad story about their dependents just prior to being sentenced to jail time and fined huge amounts of money.
Is it worth it? Those who depend on the drug mules will now have life infinitely harder, not just because their provider is in jail, but because they also have the fines to pay. In addition, what amount of money is worth one's life, with a bit of torture thrown in for extra measure?
The grass is always greener on the other side - until you get there that is. The cold hard truth of the situation is that the drug trade in Jamaica is controlled by a small number of ruthless people who use and abuse those desperate and silly enough to fall into their clutches. Drugs do not offer a way out, merely a way down. Anyone who is approached to either buy or smuggle drugs should take a long look at the potentially dim future they could face if they get caught and then walk, or perhaps run, the other way.
