A STORY APPEARED in an edition of THE STAR last week, which told of an incident in which a 13-year-old girl was almost drowned by a female companion whom she had refused to reciprocate sexual contact.
Many were saddened by the incident but certainly not surprised.
Several will argue that with the advancement of technology where anyone can get access to any and every kind of information, the young minds are not spared. But on the flip side, adult films and cable TV are not the only influencing factors that can create this sort of problem.
If negative role models and a world of decaying sexual morality swirls constantly around the youth, it was only inevitable that they will begin to take notice and follow suit. To others the story may seem humourous, however this is no laughing matter. Two teenage girls are under medical care after one performed oral sex on the other and attempted to get the other to return the favour. The alleged aggressor is under psychiatric treatment. This incident points to very real problems in an unstable society.
The teenage years are hard enough, with constant peer pressure, growing pains and sheer confusion. This must be very hard if it is coupled with the added stress of fighting off sexual advances from someone, especially if that person is of the same sex.
