WATERHOUSE JUST MANAGED to stay ahead of the chasing pack in the race for a semi-final place in the Wray And Nephew National Premier League after playing to a 1-1 draw with Reno in the third round return game at Frome yesterday.
Thanks to a Kirk Ramsey 81st minute equaliser, Waterhouse managed to stay ahead of Village United and Rivoli on goal difference with all three teams locked on 50 points, three behind defending champions Portmore.
Delvano Brown had given a resilient Reno the lead after 76 minutes and had hopes of scoring their first win over Waterhouse this season and creating some space between themselves and the bottom three teams.
Reno are in ninth place on 29 points, five ahead of Invaders with Seba and the relegated Star Cosmos next.
Played hard
Reno's coach Boysie Nicholson, who made just one change from the team that lost 1-0 to Harbour View in the last outing, said he was pleased with the effort of the team, "we deserved a point out of this game, as we played hard. Our conditioning is not good as we have not been training and as a result has been picking up injuries but we thank God we came out with a point."
Nicholson told the Star that he thought they did well in both midfield and defence as "we did not allow the Waterhouse team to play too much in the midfield and our defence played well for most of the game but once again our lack of conditioning let us down."
A despondent looking Barry Brown, the Waterhouse assistant said he thought they should have won as in his estimation they "created enough chances to have won" but added "we have been having a poor time finishing."
He said the tough surface of the field which caused uneven bounces did not help their cause adding they expected Reno who are trying to stave off relegation, to come out hard.
Reno had the first chances but wayward shooting failed to bother the Waterhouse goalkeeper Loxley Reid.
Lawrence who had his best game in more than a month in the Reno goal, pulled off a good save in the 22nd minute, denying Taffari O'Conner when he blocked a low shot from point blank range for a corner.
