The 'Kanastone' of dancehall
By TOUSSAINT SMITH, Staff Reporter The group 'Kanastone' from left Odene 'Fiyaneer' Burke, Garfield 'Ruff Top' Thomas and Bryden 'Bescenta' Wilkins. - Rudolph Brown THE TRIO 'KANASTONE' plans to be the corner stone of reggae music. 'Kanastone' consists of Odene 'Fiyaneer' Burke, Bryden 'Bescenta' Wilkins and Garfield 'Ruff Top' Thomas. Burke and Thomas are from Almond Hill in St. Catherine while Wilkins hails from Salisbury, St. Andrew. All the members are in their late 20s. The group got together in a rather unique way Burke told THE STAR. "Ruff always sing and influence mi, we use to move together as friends, and 'Bescenta' now, him did a look a girl over our ends and him a artiste too and we become friends. To the way we a move people say we fi tek it serious," he added. "As a group we took it serious as of 1997." Presently the group has two singles that are enjoying heavy rotation on a few of the popular radio stations. The singles are Planted and Black Crime Story on the 'General' rhythm. The group also is working on their new album but they have not yet given it a title. Lead singer 'Bescenta' describes his style as "A style given to me by Jah, my style is different, cause it a come from Jah, a through inspiration it come, it's like a little bun wey yuh like all the spice inna it." 'Fiyaneer' on the other hand told THE STAR; "My style unique, me create my style, no one sound like I sound -- original and authentic, fierce and fiery." 'Ruff Top' also says that he does not imitate any other artiste. "Mi put more a mi inna my music, rough but mi sing smooth," he said. The young group plans to go as far as possible in the music business. "We nuh know what can happen tomorrow, as far as the music tek wi, it's like a ship, just a go wid the music," concluded Fiyaneer.
