'HOT MONDAYS' WILL rise again from its ashes this month.
The street session, brought to fame by selector Fire Links, took its second break earlier this year but it is slated for a grand resumption on Easter Monday, April 12, in Portmore.
The show has had mixed fortunes since its sharp rise to popularity in 2003. It stood out as one of the earliest and best supported street dances out of the dozens which have now surfaced. Hundreds of local and overseas fans used to bundle on to Hagley Park Road, St. Andrew to enjoy what the session offered.
Challenges
The show, however, has not been without its share of challenges. Police from the Half-Way-Tree station ended one of the sessions abruptly last November, claiming that the selector had not secured the proper permits before keeping the session. In February, the police issued a directive that Fire Links should not play in at least three of their police divisions in Kingston; the St Andrew North, St Andrew Central, and St Andrew South divisions.
Fire Links seems to have moved past that however, and he told THE STAR that although nothing is definite yet, fans of his much talked about session will find him playing at La Roose in Portmore for now.
Temporary home
"Its just for a month or two we will be over here. Portmore will be the home for 'Hot Mondays' for the time being," Fire Links explained.
He added that this Easter Monday's session will have features that his regular session would not normally offer.
For one, the session will feature the likes of Capleton, Beenie Man, John Hype and a host of other artistes. Added to these are a few surprises Fire Links has planned himself. "Yu done know a good things as usual. We have crazy prizes and surprises for the people but we nuh finalise them totally yet."
