Relatives disrespect my 'handicapped' man

Dear Pastor,

I am in love with a guy. My relatives are always picking on him. The other day my cousin was laughing at him because of his deformed fingers. He was only born with three fingers on one hand and three and a half on the other.

Regardless of his hands, I am deeply in love with him. It is he that I love, not his fingers. Please tell me what to do. I don't want to diss my relatives, but I can't see them dissing the love of my life.

S.P., Plantation, Florida

Dear S.P.,

It is sad that some people poke fun at the handicapped or physically disadvantaged. Shame on those who look down on them, think and behave as if they are better. Many handicapped folks have done very well. They have not been a burden to society. Keep on loving your boyfriend. Ignore those who say negative things about him.

Say your piece!
