LAST WEEK THURSDAY'S STAR lead story, 'Is Red Bull Safe' has prompted a response from the Bureau of Standards.
A press release issued to the media late yesterday afternoon, said: "The Bureau of Standards wishes to advise the public that Red Bull energy drink, which was stated by the local distributors in a recent media story (THE STAR) to be "safe for public consumption and approved by the Bureau of Standards," was not approved on the basis of the product being deemed safe for public consumption."
The Bureau says the product was approved in December 2003 on the basis that it satisfied labelling laws. The Bureau says that "no known toxic ingredients were seen in the declaration of content." The release further stated that all issues regarding health falls within the mandate of the Ministry of Health.
Meanwhile the report continued, Caribbean Producers Limited, local distributors of Red Bull, have acknowledged that their representative who spoke to the media erred and have offered to publicly retract the statement.
