APPLETON ESTATE JAMAICA Rum will team up with veteran musician Byron Lee to present 'Living Legends' in April, an event designed to pay tribute to some of the Caribbean's musical heroes.
These icons, David Rudder, Ernie Smith, Keith Lyn, Pluto Shervington, and Byron Lee, among others, will be feted and awarded for their 30 years and more in the music business. The celebrations will take place on the lawns of King's House on April 15.
The show was elaborately launched at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, New Kingston on Monday night, with special tributes given to the icons by Michael Anthony Cuffe, and greetings from the Minister of Industry and Tourism The Honourable Aloun N'Dombet Assamba.
She told the gathering that the ministry endorsed the event, and gave thanks for Appleton's support.
"This event strengthens Jamaica's claim to be one of the leading producer of musicians in the world, and we are happy to be associated with it."
In giving his vote of thanks, the show's producer Byron Lee gave tearful thanks to everyone involved in the show's promotion, but was lamentful about losing some of his friends before they were honoured.
"I am very happy today to know that I am going to accomplish something I have dreamed of. Cynthia Schloss, Dennis Brown, Bob Marley, among others, they did not get theirs," he stated.
He promised that the show would continue next year with other awards for other artistes.
